Legal Manager: Econet Wireless Zimbabwe

Duties and Responsibilities

• Reviews and identifies legislation that the company has to comply with.
• Ensures that Econet Wireless complies with legislative framework that affects the organisation’s operations.
• Ensures that the various departments are complying with the requisite obligations through ad hoc departmental audits.
• Researches on legal matters in various areas i.e. Labour Legislation, Telecoms regulations, SHE regulations, Banking legislation, Beverages, legislation, Private Voluntary Organisations Legislation, Energy sector regulations etc.
• Meets company CEO’s, divisional heads and departmental heads and discuss regulatory concerns from their operations and advise on the legal implications
• Researches on what is happening in other jurisdictions and use the information to guide the business on how to operate in line with international trends, and/or best practices
• Reviews, drafts and negotiates agreement from subsidiaries and line departments to achieve optimum results for the business.
• Coordinate movement of agreements between various departments and attend to signatures to meet or beat 7 days turnaround time
• Proactively proffers advice to the business in order to avoid litigation
• Prepares briefs, selects, engages and supervises external counsel on all matters handed over for litigation.
• Secures company intellectual and proprietary rights through registration of all trademarks and patents.
• Advises external counsel to renew trademarks upon expiry of the trademark term.
• Checks and monitors the implementation of the budget, identifies variances, and assist Legal Counsel in developing an action plan to address the variances;
• Advises on the Business Policies and Procedures to ensure that these are being observed in line with both local laws and International practices.


• Degree in Law
• Registered Legal Practitioner
• A Master’s Degree will be an added advantage
• 4-6 years’ experience in a similar or related environment
